Save the Children's U.S. Programs Finds Only Seven States Prepared to Protect Children; Five-point Plan is Unveiled

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 17, 2009) — Ten years after a relentless assault of unprecedented natural and manmade disasters, a report released today by Save the Children's U.S. Programs reveals that only seven states are meeting crucial minimum standards to ensure that schools and child-care facilities are prepared to respond to the needs of children during a disaster. The report, "The Disaster Decade: Lessons Unlearned for the United States," was released at a D.C.-area child-care center by Mark Shriver, Save the Children U.S. Programs Managing Director, along with actor and advocate Julianne Moore, Artist Ambassador.

Perhaps you are taking a “Staycation”, a term coined to describe a period of time a person stays home or takes day trips in lieu of traveling to another city, state or country to relax.

If you are planning to take a Staycation, you may want to consider becoming a tourist in your own city. Enjoy places that you have not visited, create an itinerary and strategically plot your trip to decrease gas consumption, while optimizing family time by enjoying the trip as well as the destination.

Take advantage of dollar movies, visit a park, go bike riding...
