This summer many families will enjoy staycations or hit the road to enjoy time with family.

While traveling in your vehicle, everyone must not forget to buckle up. Whether riding in the front or back seat, safety is key. The organization, Safe Kids states that vehicle crashes remain the number one killer of children ages 2-14 in the United States. Safe Kids Buckle Up teaches parents and caregivers how to buckle up children the right way, on every ride. Safety in the Sun

As summer begins to turn up the heat, you should start taking extra care to protect yourself from the sun. UV, or ultraviolet, rays have the ability to damage your skin cells and cause a variety of problems, including skin spots and skin cancer. In order to help protect yourself against UV rays, avoid being in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, especially during peak hours of daylight (10:00am and 4:00pm). Also use sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 15; be sure to reapply after swimming, toweling off, or being in the sun for more than an hour and a half. Learn more about sun safety.

Save the Children's U.S. Programs Finds Only Seven States Prepared to Protect Children; Five-point Plan is Unveiled

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 17, 2009) — Ten years after a relentless assault of unprecedented natural and manmade disasters, a report released today by Save the Children's U.S. Programs reveals that only seven states are meeting crucial minimum standards to ensure that schools and child-care facilities are prepared to respond to the needs of children during a disaster. The report, "The Disaster Decade: Lessons Unlearned for the United States," was released at a D.C.-area child-care center by Mark Shriver, Save the Children U.S. Programs Managing Director, along with actor and advocate Julianne Moore, Artist Ambassador.
